My Inquiry Evaluation

I Think Our Team (Elsie, Penny, Anna & Emma) Did Really
Well We Worked Well Together But We Got A Bit Stressed
Out With The Filming We Were Having Teacnical Difficulties
But We Got There And It Was Fun Creating A Movie Together
But We Still Need To Do A Bit More Editing.

Next Steps:
Maybe Next Time We Could Be A Bit More Organised
Because We Went To Go Get Started With Filming And We
Didn't Even Know How To Work The Camera And It Wasn't
Even Charged So We Need To Be More Organised Next Time

Team Work:
Again I Think We Worked Well As A Team But We
Need To Learn To Just Keep It Simple Because
We Got Stressed Out With The Fact That We Had Put
All Our Costumes And We Couldn't End Up Filming!

So That's How Our Inquiry Went!
By Elsie

Sams inquiry evaluation

I think our inquiry went really well because we got lots of our information into the movie and it is really easy to understand. But some of the bad things are that when we first started filming we were been silly and not that serious but then we improved and its now much better.

Yeaer 6 reflection

1. Math because I am good at it and I learn lot of strategies some time I even bit other people up a lot at it.
2. Home work because when I was in Taiwan I've got lot of home work and now here's home work is less so I love it but some time I miss home work.

3. Computer because when I was in Taiwan I doesn't get so much time on computer after Teach wizard Teach me I know lot of thing about sometime even better than Teach Wizard.
4. Friend because when I was at home I got lot of home work from my mum and I doesn't get time to play and now I get my friend I can play with them even go or com to my/his house.
5. English because now I learn some English now I can talk to my friend and in Taiwan I always bad at English now I got my English friend to talk to me and got home work to write English so I got lot and lot of improve in English.

Inquiry Evaluation

Create our create went well because we planed and then we took action on doing it and we recorded everything smoothly.
Organised I think my group could of been more organised because we didn't really plan until we got stuck up to one point.
quality I think our work was very quality becuae I got people to check everything were doing and to get things checked.
your role My role was to write a letter to the Board of Trustys and tell them to not use a cole boiler and I told them the reasons why and also to finish my recordings.

Next steps would be to.
Co-operation better because Emma did most of the work and when it came to the create I thought I did most of the work so next time I think to keep working not matter what and not have lots of fights with Emma.
And Not to get distracted with my friends by skipping or something else like pretend to do other work.

Persuasive Writing Rubric

Honestly,we really need to have hard laws for drunk drivers.
Last year, there was a girl who across the road then the drunk driver hit the girl.
Luckily, that girl was concerned. The worst thing was that drunk driver has to pay just 200 box!!
My opinion is " We need to have hard laws for drunk drivers."
Drunk drivers don't go to the jail and drunk drivers don't pay much money!! I couldn't believe it!
If we let go of drunk drivers, they would drunk and hit someone again.
That someone's family would be so sad.
Why we have laws? for nothing? NO,we have laws for make people happy and make things became fair to every one, however, like this problem people are not happy and things are not fair to every one.
These are reasons of why we should make hard laws for drunk drivers.
PLEASE! MAKE HARD LAWS FOR DRUNK DRIVERS!!

Angles- Group 4

A. 100 degrees
B.80degrees
C. 100 degrees
D. 80degrees
Total 360 degrees

Maths Today

My group found out what an angle it was hard to start but then Adam and Emma M found out that we were meant to use prodrogram and in the middle there is a line and it is really easy and you line it up and then you see by adding and then we can see.
It is really easy and I think you should have ago. I think you should have ago its hard to work it out but you wll find it easy

Angles- How to mesure them

Angles- How to mesure them
Place the Protractor on in the middle of the line and and follow the line you want to mesure from the outside and follow the angle you are mesuring to the protractor. The number that lines up with the protractor is the angle.
To check that they are right add up the angles and they should equal 360

Angles

Angles

Triangles must have 180 degrees in it
squares have 360

An angle is the measurement between to joining lines
It is also something that is on an angle (E.G a line on a 90 degree angle)

10 December Reflection

Today we had Mrs R and It was a full on day e had WiFlS (What ever i feel like saying) And then we had Swimming but most of Team 14 forgot there togs because it was raining and we were expecting it to be off But I Did a crossword that Mrs R let me do and It was quite easy for me it would be a very very easy.

The rest of the day was fun in the afternoon Evaluation on Inquiry and Reflection and Pack up.

http://global-warmingtruth.blogspot.com/

We think that our inquiry went well but nobody knows about it so we need to get it out into the open that is our goal at the moment.

We think that our inquiry went well because it has lots of gadgets on it that have to do with global warming and how it is a threat to us it has info on G.W too.
We had a few problems as well but they were solved in a matter of time !

We did a blog

Nick & Jason.

Boys Group Reflection

n this evaluation I will be talking about the good facts and about the bad facts. In the inqury group there were seven people they were.
Matt, Sam, Jun, Samuel, Joe, Chris and Daniel K.

Now I will talk about the good facts.

One of of the good things was that all seven of us wanted to make a movie and we all wanted to do the same stuff such as making a news about global warming and we will have some interviews.

We decided things really fast. The things are who will be who and where we will do all the filming.

Most of the filming was done very well and was done really fast so it only took one week.

The start of the movie and all the music was good.

Some bits were so funny!

There are bloppers.

This is some of the bad parts!!!

Sometimes we were mumbleing.

Sometimes we had to do lots of things over and over again.

There was lots of backgroud noise.

Some bits were very boring.

The music could have beeen better.

Key Competency Reflection-Jason

Dream maker idea because you have to have dream maker to do stuff. on create you have to make dream to make stuff. building stuff because you have to think of some thing to do on building.
team player PE because on PE like t-ball soccer... all of them need to work as a team. game like the rich list team tag.... all need team player.
Thinker idea because you have to think to make idea. even talking you have to think about what are you going to talk. every thing because you have to think to do every thing.
communicator language because I know lot of language like Taiwan, English...... and lot of stuff. to know some thing because on defiant language you have to communicator them.

Buying Jun's Under Water House

Dear Editor

Hi, my name is Jun and I’m going to convince you why people can live underwater.

Imagine living under water in a very advanced under water house because there is no room to live on land. People can swim around the ocean whenever you want. Robots will do the chores so you can sit back and relax.

Now I’ll tell you everything about how you’ll live under water. You’ll have an under water house that is waterproof forever with out any support. When you what to move to another place you don’t have to look for another under water house because the house can move. When the house gets damaged, the robots will fix it.

I’ll tell you how the house gets air, the house has an special machine called an AT (Air Turbine) that gets air from the surface, but if the machine sucks up polluted air there is a machine called an APC (Air Pollution Cleaner) which will make polluted air into clean air.

Now I’ll tell you how the house gets one of the most important things, water. First the sea water goes into the WC (water cleaner) and the WC gets salt from the water and puts it into the salt storage and puts the water into the water storage.

The house has a machine that sucks energy from the sun for electricity and heat. The house has a fishing machine that has a fishing rod, a net and gun. When it catches a fish it puts the fish into a small tunnel and the fish goes into the food storage, also the robots go shopping to the surface and get cheese and vegetables and all sorts of stuff.

You may be wondering how the house gets fire. Well the house is waterproof also the house makes fire by using the machine that sucks energy from the sun.

In conclusion the house is great to live in it and this is why people can live under water. ~<(^^)>

Sam N- Essay

Living On The Ocean
By Sam Nossiter
Team 14 October 2007

I think that in the year 3000 we should live in and on top of the sea. Most things we do will not pollute and we would be helping with the demand for land usage.

There are lots of fun things you can do just out your door like when you live on top of the water you can just walk out your door and go for a swim and there could be something to stop the sea creatures like sharks and lots more.

How would we get our electricity we would be able to get electricity from the seawater with a hydro plant. We would need more hydroelectricity for under water we could just make more hydro plants on top of the water for it to travel to this people underwater.

They would get there air from oxygen tanks and plant trees all over the town for oxygen.

Back on top of the water there are going to have helicopters and boats will take loads of stuff like food and mail and more to and from land.

We would get gas from land and it could travel ****through tubes under water. There could be different towns and cities and different kind of foods and sources.

We would get oil from under the ground just like everyone dose.

Years after the people start to live in and on top of the water there would start to have to build on it it and onto it so more people can live there. But if there is no more room. Still leaving space for the animals in the sea lots of space. We could start to build somewhere else like space, clouds and underground. The city on top of the water and under the towns will be like normal towns like chch with universities, parks, zoos, supermarkets, libraries, hotels, markets, banks, newspaper companies, movies, bike tracks, paintball, go-carts, cars and ships, cruises, farms, forests, lakes, rivers, skate parks, gyms, sports areas, stadiums, studios, pet shops, music lessens, restaurants, neighbourhoods, churches, camping sights.

Nicky's Persuasive Writing-Evauluation

I think my Persuasive writing about "Why the all blacks why not France instead" I think It went really well because I hooked in a couple of people in and the were interested and I got some information about what happened the reasons why... and My opinion and what I thought I thought that having 3oo words max was quite hard because I had to keep counting and I got distracted by counting which then put me off.
Next time I would Improve on:
I would improve on get some more descriptive words

Dear New Zealand Rugby Union.

GO THE ALL BLACKS
Hello my name is Nicky Bowler and I think the ALL BLACKS should of won the world cup. Here is some information you might want to know 55% think it was the refferee's fault 7% think it was the coach 17% was the all blacks players.

First of all the ref kept giving out penalties to the All Blacks Then there was the send off thing when they send you off for no reason THEN there’s the ford pass from the French and they score when they should of called it up for a ford pass but of course they let it go.

Most people were getting ready to leave on the plane to go and watch the finals because the knew we would get in of course the ref spoils everything and loads of people canceled there trip to Paris France to watch our champions many people were angry and disappointed that the refs were cheating but of course French won.

I think the All blacks should of won because Graham Henry may no longer be your hero but to me he always is. When the All Blacks arrived back everyone was still happy with them for getting this far well it least I am So many people turned out to Christchurch Airport for congrautulating them and getting there signatures. I think the are still my number 1 fans even if the loose a game.

So in conclusion I think the ref should pay next time the ref will suffer no So now we will be ready to win in 4 years time and we will ring the cup home were it belongs in New Zealand so I’m ready my friends are ready everybody’s ready so the ref will pay new Zealand meet the cup in 4 years.

Sincerely Nicky

Why the England Referee was unfair

By Elise
Team 14, Fendalton School
November 2007

When the All Blacks lost to France in the Rugby World Cup quarterfinal the New Zealand supporters were watching in shock as the French celebrated. The players, supporters and coaches were all gutted and disappointed with our loss. No other country would have been as disappointed as we were. This is the earliest the All Blacks have ever been out of the Rugby World Cup.

I think the England referee was unfair because he was on the side of the French team so that the English team would get to play an easier team in the semi-final.
In the first half Luke Macalister got sent off for 10 minutes for what looked like a high tackle but wasn't. The referee was definitely on the French side because a fair referee wouldn't pull up one side for nothing.

During the second half the referee didn't see a forward pass from the French that scored a try, which was also converted. If the referee had seen this forward pass, then the All Blacks would have won and had a chance of getting through to the finals.

Everybody is blaming the loss all on the All blacks and the coaches but it was partly the All blacks bad team work but most of it was unfair refereeing. The final score was 18-20 to France. The All Blacks now have to wait another 4 years to have another try at getting the title of the Rugby World Cup. All we can do now is hope that the refereeing is fair unlike this year’s quarterfinal.

Matt

How can we be involved?

Hi

I'm writing to let you know about a new, nationwide, campaign called Be The Change, which has been set up by Greenpeace, Oxfam and Forest & Bird. It aims to inspire New Zealanders to take action on climate change in their own lives, communities, and of course, schools!

Schools around the country are doing some great things to reduce their carbon footprint, and we're visiting a few during our nationwide "climate rescue tour", as we travel from Bluff to Northland in the Be the Change bus.? You can find out more about Be the Change and the bus tour at our website www.bethechange.org.nz

I'm writing specifically because we have an exciting event planned for December 8th, which we hope schools across New Zealand will get involved in.

It's called the Global Day of Action (GDA) on climate change, and it's timed to coincide with an important meeting on climate in Bali, Indonesia.

We need to send a message to the global decision makers at the meeting, that we want to see action on climate change now.

We are keen to see as many young people involved as possible.? It is their future that hangs in the balance.

The idea is simple, fun and easy to organise.? We're getting people to spell out what they want to say to our leaders on climate change, to take a digital photo of it, and upload it to the Be The Change website at [ http://www.bethechange.org.nz/gda ]http://www.bethechange.org.nz/gda.

We'd love to see hundreds of photos from schools around the country.?

We're trying to keep the messages positive and focused on what we expect our leaders to deliver.?

Some ideas of things to spell out include:
Save the climate!

Climate action now!

Climate heroes please!

NZ climate leaders

Be The Change. Stop climate change.

Climate friendly future

It could involve making a "human sign" with a group of students (see attached photo from an activity involving some Australian schools earlier this year), it could involve spelling out a message using something iconically Kiwi (e.g. chocolate fish, jandals) or something linked to saving the climate (bicycles, energy efficient lightbulbs).

However you choose to do it, the more messages the better!? Check out [ http://www.bethechange.org.nz/ ]www.bethechange.org.nz for instructions on uploading photos and more examples of messages people have already spelt out.

Let's make the 8th of December a day to remember!

Kind regards,

Lesa Lomas

Environmental Expo - Thank You

Here is a message Sue received from the organiser of this event:

Dear Sue,

Thank you so much for making Ecoexpo New Zealand's inaugural event such a success.  We were  quite overwhelmed to see so many children take part in The Wearable Art show and also the quality of the garments, you really were the stars of the weekend. We are already planning the next event and the creative juices are flowing once again to see how we can make the next one even more spectacular.  I will be in touch with you when those thoughts have been formalised.  I would love the opportunity to come and visit your school and see some of the other initiatives you have under taken with regards to "saving our planet".

We have now calculated that slightly more than 4,000 people attended the Expo over the 2 days. And from the information we gathered through our survey we now know that over 90% of the survey respondents felt the event was either very good or good and that 74% have said they would attend the next Eco Expo.

We will have a series of photo's of the Expo appearing on our website shortly, also we are just getting some copies of The Wearable Art show made - they are not professional, Kim videoed it for our personal record but I will get a copy to you when they are completed.

Thank you once again Sue, you must be very proud of your students.

Kind regards

Judging how your CREATE has made a difference

How will you know your CREATE has made a difference?

Think of three or four aspects your group could use to help judge whether or not your create has made a difference.

Record your ideas as comments to this post.

When thinking of 'making a difference', think about these aspects:

  1. A 'create' may just be encouraging others to change their behaviour.
  2. It could involve you making something to be shared.
  3. It could make a difference to your learning, or a larger group's learning (ie. our class, your family, the school, a business, your local community, etc.).

Feedback for Sheldon and Alvin

We think that you have found some good information. Next time you could summarise the main points because it got kinda bouring. They needed to be more descriptive with the google searches that they did. next time you need to sort out who is going to say what. They really consintrated on their question on the subject of pollution.

Elise, Penny And Christie's Maths Game

What you will need:
One whole deci pipe
10 tenths of a deci pipe
10 hundredths of a deci pipe
One bead chain

Instructions:

1. Player 1 gives player 2 some deci pipes including at least 1 tenth, 1 hundredth and 1 thousandth to make a three place decimal

2. Player 2 uses the pipes that player 1 gave them and puts them on the whole pipe and shows player one what the decimal number is on the number fan.Remember to explain why. eg: 0.537 because there is 5 tenths on the deci pipe so you put the 5 straight after the point. There are 3 hundredths on the pipe so I put the 3 in the hundredths column. There are 7 thousandths on the pipe so the 7 goes in the thousandths column.

3. Using the beads player 2 shows the decimal number. Remember the beads will not show the thousandths. Take away the thousandths from the number. Eg. .256 will turn into .25.

Maths Nicky and Emma How to play our game

How to play our maths game.
What you will need:
Red beads (20 of them)
Yellow beads (20 beads of them)
Blue beads (20 beads of them)
Green beads (20 beads of them)
or any other beads that you can find. And make a number with it like... 18..
Wire
And yourself brain ready to count

How to set up the game with your 80 beads mix them up randomly and try not putting them in a certain order then when your finished putting them on you are almost ready to start.
Now the numbers
Red=1
Yellow=6
Blue=10
Green=20
Or any colours you put in make a number that you think would be good

How to start the game:
The leader puts her finger on the beads on just say yellow yellow red green then you would add them up which would because you add it up in total as I said before it has yellow=6 red=1 blue=10 green=20 so that's how I would get it. =33

Then it's first to 3 and then who every wins three times gets to have a go being the leader then when it's someone else's go and when it is there turn you have to pick it and it is really fun when you all have a go.
Hope you enjoy our game!

Lucys & Berties inquiry sharing

Lucy: Should practice the words a bit more. Nice and loud. Try not to read the whole page, summarise a bit.

Bertie: Well practice/spoken. Maybe next time use a bit more expression. Nice and loud.

Overall feedback: It was good how they had interesting facts that still was about their question. Easy to follow with columns that are well spread out. Try to change the words into your own. Quality info. You presented it well.

How they organised their work:
It was easy to follow with the columns. It was good use of google docs.

Feedback for Lucy and Bertie's Inquiry presentation

Is Global Warming really happening or is it just a myth?

I think that you have presented your information very well. And you have recorded where you got the information from. Your question is a very tough question and I think you have got most of the information you will need. You have also made links to the words so we can find out more information on that idea. I also think it is good how you put in some weird and interesting facts in there to. Maybe next time I think you could  you could say the most important points and not say the things that we already know. You could also put some of the facts that you got into your own words to make sure you understand what you are reading.  You could also summarise the long parts into different words that we understand. You should contact some different experts or scientists for some more information because you have lots of websites. I think that you have put a lot of work and effort into this and you have found some very good information. You have used your time very effectively.

Feedback from the audience.
Christie- I liked the question and it was a challenging question. You could put some of the text in  your own words.
Amelia- You presented your information very well.
Penny- I think your question is hard and I also think you could put the websites ideas into your own words.
Clare- It was easy to follow
Daniel you had lots of info and backup your ideas with fact. And you should

Feed back On emma and Nicky's power point

Interesting pictures

Good information they can understand some of the hard words need to change some of the words so they understand it better and know what there talking about.

Liked your presentation
Easy to understand

Didn’t explain why it is bad

Needed to search what temperatures they were talking about.

Nicky and Emma's Powerpoint

Once they had already read it out because people were talking they did a really good summary of what they had already talked about.
they talked really clearly.
they explained what things were just incase we didn't understand what it was so they explained what it was in a good way that we could understand what it was.

My opinions:
I think it was really good because the PowerPoint that they made they had done in their spare time.

Maths

You need:
At least two Number fans
100 Beads
At least 3 people

How to play:
1. You need to choose a leader and at least two people with the Number Fans.
2. The leader turns there back around so noone can see and makes a decimal number, then quickly shows them the number and people with fans have to make the number with Number Fans and tell them the number quickly.
3. The people with the fans have to try and get as many right as they can, then the first person who has got 3 right gets to be the leader.

Question: What Causes Global Warming

Was Their Info Useful My Opinion: I Think
They Did Well But 1 Of Them Was Being Silly
But They Werent Owning Up to it but they did
well apart from that but yes they should read
their information before sharing it.
Their Opinion:
They think that some of their info was useful
but not most of it because they didn't read
over it so they are still going to find out some
more info so they did quite well.

Feedback:
When You Put An information source
instead of copying the website copy
the exact URL of the page
I think that they were mucking around
a lot and they were being silly with wording
but they also had some good information
but maybe next time they should
read over what they have done before
they share in front of an audience

TED Talk - Solving Climate Change

Here is a really interesting podcast from TED. Environmental scientist David Keith talks about a cheap, effective, shocking solution to climate change.

This scientist would be worth contacting. I wonder if any of you are interested in dong this and setting up a video conference with him?

Some of you may be very interested in this - both the idea but also in how it is communicated.

Key competency Reflection 2007

Dream maker: When I had Gymnastic, I couldn't do anytings in the Gymnastic but I practiced and I practiced now I could do most things and I became healthy.

Team Player: When we share our inquiry works we needed to listen to each other.

Communicator: I learnt diffrent languages and using diffrent languages so I could do two diffrent languages!!!

Thinker:I think that I created many things and I searched things for inquiry information with Clare.

Video - bullying

Here is a interesting video about bullying

For those of you thinking about creating a movie or podcast, what can you take from this movie?

Is it quality? How would you know?

Lates notes about G.W

It is - 18 -20 Degrees at the moment
At the top of the mountain it is - 26 Degrees
Storms come through it can come and crack the ice.
When they drill there is a certain place they have to do it
They started planning for the trip 8 years ago
Drilling prepration never stops
The bases are much more comfortable then 20 years ago
The Comunaction is better than 30 years ago
They are not alloud 2 leave anything in Antractia
Temprature difference quite drammitic
They can have -10 deggress at the most
There are four nations involved in the progect.
Everyone gets on very well together.
They put big air bags under the sea ice and send divers down to see all the lines down then they blow the bags up, it is quite risky for the divers.
Only two people get to rest at the same time and when they have reached there goal the can pack up and go home.
He misses his wife and kids but they get used to him being away for long periods of time.
There are people against drilling.
Each year that they drill they get better and better at drilling so they get better teknects

Clare's reflection

Today I learned how to add 2 negetive numbers together today in maths.
From this learning I can now help others about negetive problems if they dont know how to do it.
The next step in my learning is to help others when they have problems.

G.W

does anyone know where everybodys Global warming feedback went because i would like to see Youbins and I's? And are we making a website?

Making a Label Cloud

This is a technical tip and requires you go into the Template > Edit HTML area of your blog. It allows you to put a label cloud on your blog. Here is the link with detailed instructions for how to do this (be warned, this is technical!!!!!):

A label cloud is really cool because you can make it so that the more posts are shown, the larger the label becomes!

Be warned, export and BACKUP your template BEFORE following these instructions!!!

If you want to change the colour of the labels, use this RGB reference as a guide.

MOvember

I'm wondering if anyone of the T14 parents would sponsor me for MOvember??

Every year in New Zealand 2,656 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and about 600 die of the disease, making prostate cancer the second largest cause of male deaths, after lung cancer. The average life expectancy of a man in New Zealand is 4 years less than a woman.

To sponsor my MO please go to http://www.movember.com/nz/donate, enter my registration number which is 88616 and your credit card details.

Or you can sponsor me by cheque made payable to the "Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand" clearly marking the donation as being for my Registration Number: 88616 . Please mail cheques to: Movember, PO Box 87 150, Meadowbank 1742, Auckland. All donations over $5 are tax deductible.

All donations are made directly to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand who will use the funds to create awareness, increase support networks for those men who suffer from prostate cancer, fund research and scholarship programs.

All classes are invited to a Mo Day assembly and a performance by the Boys' Choir on Thursday 29 Movember at 10.00am in the Hall. There will be a shave off auction and the Boys' Choir will perform

Jason and Nick feedback for Global warming

It was very good because of:

  • how they have they have good info to use when they answer the qestion.
  • how they showed the websites that they found.
  • how they had the links set up beside the info that they found from that websites
Next steps would probably to let Jason have a go at talking a saying what they are up to, and spread your information out more so it is easier to read and sort out. Plus start by sharing your question to show what you were looking for.

Understanding Decimal Numbers

Answer these questions:

  1. What is a decimal number?
  2. Where are they used and how are they useful? Give at least 5 examples of decimal numbers in everyday use.
Game:
  1. Collect some maths equipment and invent a game which challenges people how to do one of the following: put decimal numbers into order, add/subtract, multiply or divide decimal numbers.
  2. Write instructions for your game, making sure you explain how the game develops your mathematical understanding.
  3. Include in your instructions how to make the game more challenging or interesting, as well as how to simplify the game to make it easier.
  4. Post it to the Team 14 blog with a label of Maths. If you are not from Team 14, get one of these people to log you in so you can publish.
These games will be used again for the benefit of others.

Feedback for the sharing of inquiry information - Elise and Daniel C

Elise: she did not say all of one of the sub question she just went blah blah blah instead of saying it all out.

Both: they wrote out all of there information really well and they talked really clearly. For each sub question they have made a separate chart for it so that you know that it is a new sub question, they have a box for the changes form the past and another one for now.

Things that they need to do better=
Elise: next time I think Elise should make sure that she says all of the sub question so that we don’t have to read it ourselves because that wasn’t what the sharing was for.

Feedback for the sharing of inquiry information - Matt, Daniel K & Sam

Sam: he read and spoke really clearly. He made sure that the whole class was listening before he talked.

Matt: He fixed the mistakes that he made, he read and spoke really clearly

Daniel K: he needs to tell the other people in his group that he needs to have a time to talk.

All: they made sure that they showed us all of the websites. It was good that they organized it in a google doc. They showed us what we might lose by caring on how we are. They made it sound like a good thing that the world is going to warm up.

Things that they need to do better=
All: they need to make sure that they make sure that everyone gets the same amount of time to talk in the group because Daniel K didn’t get to talk that much at all.

Feedback for the sharing of inquiry information - Clare

Both: They got a lot of information in their information organizer. They made sure that they .

Things that they need to do better=
Both: they didn’t change some of the words we could tell that they hadn’t changed it because they couldn’t pronounce them very well.

Clare: you need to make sure that you know how to pronounce the words so that we all know what she is talking about. I know that you-bin didn’t want to talk you need to make sure that she talks to get her English better.

Global Warming

Daniel and Elise are very organised with there feedback to the class and I think they have found out alot of information nd looks like they are very wanting to get out there and go for it looks like they searched up/found out alot of this Well Done Elise and Daniel.

Key Competency Reflection

I think I am flexible because I take in everyones ideas to make a bigger idea.
I think I am a creator because I love to create new things and create stories an example of this is when Bertie and I created a story about a boy who was taken to an island an held captive..
I think I am a Responsible risk taker because I like to take risks and try new things but I make sure they are safe and responsible first, an example of this is when I decided to do the highest abseiling wall because I new it was safe and I was trying something new.
I think I am passionate because if I get into something I like I keep practising or trying new ways to do it.
I think I am positive because I always try to look on the bright side even if something bad happens like when I have to go to swimming lessons (which I don't like) I just think that it will be another whole week before I have to go again.
I think I am self responsible because because I don't do anything without checking that I am allowed and I don't let anyone do anything that they are not allowed to do.
Transfer ideas because I can get two ideas and transfer them to make a better idea.
Respects because I respect others and there ideas and i try and use everyones ideas.
Relates to others because I understand what other people are thinking and I relate to their ideas.
Considers because I consider everyones ideas.

Energy saving tips video

Here is another movie from youtube with tips for saving energy and therefore reducing global warming.

It has a political bent to it which is also quite interesting.

How could you influence others?

I wonder if you could find anything else out about the presenter?

Here is a video from youtube I just found which may interest some of you.

I don't think the quality of it is very high, but do wonder if you could make a better job of something like this?

Carbon Offset - what is it?

Here is an interesting ad from the newspaper which I scanned.
It is from JetStar and is marketing their 'carbon offset' programme.

This might be interesting to many of you. Click here to read more from the JetStar site...

I wonder if this is marketing hype? How would you find out?

If you have comments/ideas relating to this, please post them as comments on to this blog post.

They will drill into colder rocks to see what g.w has happened over the years.
Drill goes up about 8 meters high and the rods 6 meters long.

Itʻs really hard wearing thermal work gear.
They had TV 3 down there

Andrill note taking

Who pays for these drilling projects and what do they get out of it?

Does the Antarctic treaty affect the project or the drilling in any way? Are there any things you’d like to do but can’t because of the treaty?

Why do you drill at a particular time of year?

Is the drilling programme harmful to Antarctica in any way?

Antarctica is the place where all oceans meet so there will be a lot of currents. How do the currents affect the path of the drill and what have you done to improve it?

Where are other drilling sites in Antarctica?

Some people seem to love going back to Antarctica. When you return, how do you feel? Do you get bored going back?

Antarctica is the place where all oceans meet so there will be a lot of currents. How do the currents affect the path of the drill and what have you done to improve it?

Andrill notes by Samuel

Some people which are the mangers they help with the getting ready for the day, some are land studiers. They study in the temperature of -24 and the level of 1m above sea level.
The time to get to the seabed takes about 2 couple of days to get to the sea then we dig, we dig for about 8 weeks.
We are interested in different types of rock each year so we drill what we need (The type of rocks)
The people needed to operate the drill 5 people one leader and 4 helper there are 5 at day and 5 at night. The drill is 40 tones there are other stuff so it is about 90 tones in total. (9000kg)
The drill has a plate that holds it and the drill is 6 m long.
The drill has diamond so we can dig it it has a hole in the middle so it can pick up the rock in it.
It is supported by ice which is floating the ice is strong the other holding is a metal pole. Every day the drilling is different if there are problem it will be stopped.
The scientist are looking at the rocks and then put into boxes and send it to a bigger base.
Were was the drill last year it was all put in containers and put on a road.
What was the temperature it was -24 a week storm snow blowing 60km/h.
What sort of stuff do you need to wear you need a boot (Metal) Hard hat air mask and air muff, gloves, safey glass.
When we were drilling last year there were TV3 and Radio NZ but this year we are having reporting people all over the world.

adrill

Tim works at the center she does reports.
few days to drill it goes 4 to 5 hundred down sea water then they starts drilling it takes 8 weeks to drill.
They are interested in types of rocks.
the driller is in charge of the drill, 5 people drilling in and 5 at night.
the drill is 6m long and they put then together and they put it into the hole this drill has a pole as well so that gets some rocks while drilling.
They have a day shift ad a night shift the day start working at 8am to 8pm and the night is till 8pm to 8am the day has 20 and night has10
the drill weight about 90 tonnes
they 90 tonnes of equipment the sea ice is floating in the sea but it is really strong
every day is different some people come and talk what happened the past 12 hours what rock they dug up they talk about 20 m then the shift that has been working goes and sleep dinner they get 20m of core every 2 hours
every equipment was in the container
they taught it was -50 but when they check it was -24 the Snow was blowing 60km an hour.
people working around the has to wear stuff every and has to wear a hard mask its rally
people wears safety glasses when the people were drilling last year TV3 name and filming not much people doing stuff to see

Leadership Reflection

Today the leaders had some great challenges after lunchtime and we had a discussion about this. There were a number of aspects to the challenges they encountered. The discussion we had evolved to

  1. Who are a couple of great leaders (they could be an historical figure) that you know about and how they lead?
  2. Name a couple of leaders you personally know and explain how they lead. These leaders must be people you know and have met.
  3. What sort of leader are you and how do you lead? Give examples.
Put your ideas as comments to this blog post.

reflection

Reflection

Today I learnt new thing to do on my speech such as I learnt how to get my introduction and my concution good and I learnt how to sprint well
From this learning I can sprint well in sports and athletics day and I learnt how to get my speech good
The next step in my learning is to try sprinting in sport and doing my speech for real life.

Speech Evauation

Samuels Speech Evaulation

My Speech about friends is good I would give it a rating of 4 out of 5 because it has a good time limit of 2.55 the time limit is 3 minutes and I think it has good because I had lots of adjectives in my speech and I think I had a good introduction

Reflection week 3 term 2

Today I have learnt that we are making man made disaters such as making the temperatures rise in the ocean as well as land and we are dieing from the heat that we made such as people in europe and India and even america
From this learning I am going to walk to school if I can so then I can reduce the amount of CO2 and if I stop useing cars the amount of co2 then the world will not be getting hotter
The next step in my learning is to look at more of the DVD.

Global warming

Sam and I were making the poster for our global warming that what we do in everyday life puts greenhouse gas into the air (Warch TV playing a vidoe game). The population of the world getting bigger is also a big problem for the enviroment becacuse the more people there are the more green house gas goes into the air. Lack of power is a big problem as well because we need more electrocity we will need to bulid lots of power plants the makes the enviroment dirty. The cars that make green house gas is a big sound problem. There is a good website called electrocity and it is a city that you can be mauer and play and worry about the envoroment and power
www.electrocity.co.nz
My wonderings are these things
How other ways can we make electroctiy such as power from cold thigns like ice and melting it to make enrgy.
What will happen by 7001
and other future things.

Different cultures.

How do I treat people from other cultures?
I treat them will , I have to treeat them will then NZ people will be friends with me the same goes for other culture poeple as well.

How do people from differant countries are same as us?
We all have the same body (Nose Mouth Eyes Legs arms) and we all wanted to be treated the same way.

How can we make people welcome?
We could make a party in that persons cultural way which will make them very well treated and that will be a warm greating.

What might I have done if people had me a aloner.
I would have joined I pack of friend that would look after me.

andrill project

Its -30
its very hard to describe how cold it is.
Why is is Antarctica important??
Because it is big Continent the states It has 90% of fresh water of the whole world
there
is a risk of the sea ice cracking up because the sea ice can crack
really easily when its summer the ice gets weaker so it can more easily.
people have been planing this project 7 yrs ago they started ordering the drill 4 yrs ago.
there is a lot preparation in this project in fact it never stop.
He
went to Antarctica 1947 A lot has changed the past 30yrs the Scott base
has been complete re built. the people respect the environment more in
Antarctica NZ has to take every rubbish back to NZ.
Antarctica never gets warmer the 10c
they use a diamond drill to drill
Most of the scientist speak and write English
they put air
the
people work 12hrs when people take a break only a few people can take a
break at a time they didn't until they reach their goal
they use
this thing cold a hot water drill that forces hot water and that makes
a they use diamond each diamond drill costs 5 or 6 thousand in us money.
The guy misses his wife and children's he also misses the mountains in NZ.
if the drill isn't straight it goes bad
they have engineers, scientist and a lot more so there is a lot of people in the project
they drilled A LOT!! they are getting better and better at drilling ice so scientist s can study more

Samuel Under Water

Dear Editor

Hey we finally have our own underwater house this is what people will be saying in the year 3000. Can you imagine an advanced underwater house capable staying underwater for more than 30 years without being supported. Kids will be playing with seahorses and fishes in their feature light cloths mums will be cleaning their house supported by robots and dads will be in their waterproof suits going to work in the sea living development. This houses made by the (SLD) Sea Living Development have lots of special features some of them are air pipes for the air to come in and a food chamber for the food to come in and there is a pipe for the people of the house to go above ground and a energy plant to get energy to the house.
Now I will tell you about these features.
The air
The air that keeps the house alive comes from the surface of the earth it gets speeded up by turbines and when it comes down into the house there will be AT’s (air tanks) under ground to store the air to use when there is an emergency and in the house there are more air tanks and they will be showering into the house when there is an emergency and also there is a APC (air pollution cleaner) that cleans the pollution in the air.
The food
The food will come in every 2 weeks and there is a FC (food chamber) to store the food that comes from the mainland they are meat, bread, rice, milk and vegetables.
and the people push a button and say the food they want it will come to them but if there is an emergency there will be AFM (arterial food maker) that makes man made meat, bread , rice and vegetables.
The Water
Water will come through a WCV1 (water cleaner machine the V1 is put in because if it is just WC it looks like toilet) first sea water comes into the machine and then the salt in the water will be gone by being destroyed by turbines and clean water comes into the kitchen and hot water will come in by the cold water being heated by a boiler which is powered by solar energy or they can get a WCV2 which is a better version of the WCV1 because it stores the salt and sends it to the meat and vegetables and also stores it for cooking.
The energy
The energy comes from two ways the tidal/hydro power and the solar power the hydro power will be easy to get because it is water all over the place. The sun power comes from a SPP (Solar Power Pipe) and gets energy from the sun.
These house is super well thought out and well built and this home can give you the chance of a life time but now!!!!!!!

My Question Answer

In the future the size of hurricanes will be getting bigger and bigger because the size of hurricanes have doubled in the last 30 years so I guess it will get 4 times bigger in 60 years and I think it will have more speed and power and they will be more common because they form in hot waters see the next problem more the hot sea water problem. Because global warming is making the world hotter the sun is taking the water from the land and it will get worse because if we keep on polluting we will make the sun suck up more heat ad the floods will be more common because the more water sucked up by the sun will drop on the land making the floods more fatal. The green land ice caps are melting and it is making the sea level higher and higher and if the meting countinues at this rate the Greenland ice caps will melt in 20 years. And there is another big piece of ice melting the west attic ice if this melts the water will get higher 20 feet (It will melt in 10 years) This has probably happened because of World War 2 because the Nazi dropped CO2 bombs on the UK to slow them down. The USA also tested about 8 atomic bombs. CO2 emissions have gone past the limit (It could not go over 30 degrees and now it has gone past it (34.876 degrees).
The Consequences in the Past
Glaciers in the past were normal but now glaciers have all melted like Assize Glacier (Swaziland)
What are the consequences now?
Glaciers in the past were normal but now glaciers have all melted like Assize Glacier.
The atmosphere is getting thicker and the heat gets trap in earth and that makes the icebergs are melting also there is holes in the ozone layer.
The warming will continue if emissions of heat-trapping gases continue to increase and all the ice berg will melt and the Antarctic and Antarctica will be gone because of that there will be more floods many people will lose their home because of global warming.

Andrill notes by Anna

Minor 20 digress
90% fresh water
Has been uninhabited for millions of years
It is a massive content
What the weather was doing thousands of millions years ago
How Antarctica was formed
There are 4 nations involved in America, Italy, New Zealand,
Some people are not aware that we put air bags under the sea ice.
We do that by drilling holes in the ice and put the air bags under there and then the divers go down to make sure the air bags are in the right place and then they blow them up when the divers are up.
The people on the job work 12 hours a day from 8am to 8pm and then people work the night shift.

There is a risk of cracking the ice.
In the winter it gets thick.
In the summer it warms up and the ice gets thinner and easier to crack.
The planing began 4 this 7 or 8 years ago and then stared when the order the drill 4 years ago.
Scott base has been replaced.
The places u can go and do have changed.
Temperature is different all over the continent .
Drill though ice and rocks are different technology.
Hot water drills. Each diamond drill costs 45,000 and that’s U.S.A money
Family missing kids and wife.
When u have been in Antarctica for a long time and come home it smells different.
The sea riser needs to be straight.
Manages so the people work.
NZ has been leading this drill.
Were getting better and better at what were doing.

Our first LEARNZ field trip

This morning we went on our first field trip to Antarctica. We started our audioconference listening to Darren (the LEARNZ teacher) talking about what it is like in Antarctica.

One of the things they talked about is that the amount of fresh water there makes it really good for studing climate change. I wonder why this is?

The laboratory of the world...
Another aspect is that it is relatively untouched. Humans have not done anything to this continent. antarctica dictates much of the weather around the world.

I also wonder what relevance we can find to our own inquiries.

Adrill Notes by Amelia

Each year that they drill they get better and better at drilling so they get better teknects.

Andrill call notes by Nick

Talks about the temp and the scenery and the life.

Antarctaca is one of the only places in the world tha man has'nt changed.

Sea ice has cracks everywhere and the cracks come and go.

The ice is caused to crack by the wind and the tide.

lots of things they have to take into account for the mission to be a success

They started planning 8 years ago and got the drill 4 years ago.

The warmest temp was not able to be answered.

The drills are made of diamond.

They are trying to find out the weather patterns of antarctaca 10s of billions of years ago.

Science is spread about the world.

They put air bags under the ice and they put holes in the ice in the holes they put the air bags under the ice then they blow them up.

They do not get holidays they have to work 24. 7 .

He misses his family but is family are use to him going away for long periods.

Adrill Notes by Samuel

The antertica is so important becaseue it is 90 percent of the world fresh water and all its stuff inside it and we are leaving it becasue by useing antrtica we can study the climte changing by seeing how much the has melted and how much the rock has changed underwater. Ther
The warmest temprature is this depending on the weature and month you see that in the winter there is a frozen sea so no ships can come in and in summer and spring the frozen sea melts and all this fresh water goes into the sea.
Th e temprsture goes upand down so it is hard to tell.
It takes millions of year for the wind to make the ice crack.
This project will go on for 6 to 7 years and the The getting ready for the experdetion since last last last last month and the team has tooken the food the other sutff into the ice.
There has been lots of getting ready and when they are drilling the ice there are still getting ready the gettng ready won't stop until clmate change has finsihed.
Scott base has improved a lot becasue the telephones have improved so you can go on them when ever you want and other.
When the guy was first there they left the stuff on the frozen ice just went down you are not alowed to do that u need to take your stuff baack.
The temprature is differant becasue it is so big so we need to research that but it will not go over -10.
It is very compilcated becasue you need to drill down about 1000 metres and we use diomond drill because it does not brake well. Why are we drilling it is because of 2 things one is how has the weature changed in antertica and the second reason is to study the histroy of the earth by looking at the rocks one thousand meters below. There are for coutries which is the USA.NZ AST and Germany and there differant way of learning what is happeining in antertica.
Put airbags under the ice so the drill will float. We blow the airbags up so the drill we pull down.
24 hours and 7 days a week group a work 12 hour then they change which group b.
Only a couple of people can take a rest for the day. If the misson is done they can take a couple of day s rest.
We heat the water and dump it onto the ice then the drill goes under then when the reach the rock they have a indurtrancal diomond and tongston and good steel. If you come home you smell plant and stuff becasue there are no plants in antertica.
There are things that hold the drill and they are very good steel.
Get driller, engerner and other and they need to be very good and the scientist are 3 university and one adult and there are some abulance people and managers and they need to have great skills.
Helechoter poilots there are more poeple needed.
Drilleing get stops becaue things get broken. Some stuff blow up becasue the ice is too cold. The drilling has got bad reutation becasue the people think we have been getting rocks out of the group and that is all we are doing.1250 m of ice then 900 metres of water then seabed we are leading the drilling science the 1990's every meter the scientist get the find out 1cm of the core.
