Cycle safety

Yesterday was our first day of cycle safety we had a helmet and bike check. My bike passed because it was only one day old but my helmet didn't because it had a crack in it. Today we get to actually ride our bikes and I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Berts - how did the bike ride go?

As a bike rider you have to be really careful when passing parked cars as drivers can open their doors on you. Most drivers don't look!!!! Remember what happened to Gus - he was lucky he only ended up with a bruise when someone open a door into his path. There was a guy in Dunedin who tried to avoid an opening door and he got run over by a truck and killed.

I'm glad that the safety check has picked up a number of people who have helmets that need replacing.

I had an experience a few years ago mountain biking in Hanmer Springs with some mates and I landed on my head.

Luckily I had a helmet on, but it would have been a different story had I not had one! Remember it only takes a split second to have an accident - either as your fault or due to someone else - so everyone must have safe helmets and bikes!

Happy cycling!
Rob ;-)
